NAIDOC Week: Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud and Proud
NAIDOC Week has kicked off! It runs from 7-14 July. NAIDOC stands for National Aboriginal and Islanders Day Observance Committee.
Held annually in the first week of July, this is an important time to celebrate and recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. You can find out more about events happening in Victoria here and nationally here.
The theme for 2024 is: Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud and Proud. It honours the enduring strength and vitality of First Nations culture – with fire a symbol of connection to Country, to each other, and to the rich tapestry of traditions that define Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
As part of CMY’s commitment to Reconciliation, CMY took action to Change the Date ourselves on 26 January, with many staff electing to work on that day and take an alternate public holiday this week during NAIDOC Week. On Friday 12 July, a majority of CMY staff will not be working and instead use this opportunity to attend the Victorian NAIDOC Week march in solidarity and support of First Nations communities.
We encourage you to join us in celebrating, learning and taking action this NAIDOC Week. For more information check out:
