The Unsaid Says a Lot: Bridging Generations for Inclusivity

Culture Spring has been invited by the Department of Families, Fairness and Housing (DFFH) to help amplify the ‘Unsaid Says a Lot’ campaign.

‘The Unsaid Says a Lot’ stands as an Australian-first campaign dedicated to supporting trans and gender-diverse communities. This campaign addresses the staggering reality that 3 in 4 trans and gender-diverse individuals face unfair treatment due to their gender identity. Every silent gesture and unspoken word carries weight, highlighting the importance of this campaign. It has also welcomed multicultural voices and is available in Arabic, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, and Vietnamese.

This campaign was co-designed by the Victorian Government, the Victorian Commissioner for LGBTIQA+ Communities, and representatives from:

• Inclusive Rainbow Voices
• Transgender Victoria
• Transcend Australia
• Zoe Belle Gender Collective

The campaign is part of Pride in our future: Victoria’s LGBTIQA+ strategy 2022-2032. Pride in our future is the Victorian government’s plan to drive equality for LGBTIQA+ communities over the next 10 years.

This invitation allows Culture Spring and its experienced team to work on a strategy to amplify this message. We hosted a Pride Advocates Initiative Event, where we heard from Minus 18 members and trans and gender-diverse young people and allies about the importance of the campaign. The webinar cultivated a safe space to share lived experiences and empowered attendees to have intergenerational conversations and promote inclusion.

Our goal is to highlight young voices, especially those of trans and gender-diverse individuals. Young people bring fresh ideas and understand their peers’ challenges. This campaign helps spark intergenerational conversations, ensuring their concerns are addressed and leading to innovative solutions. By including these voices, we build a more inclusive and accepting society for everyone. Our partnership with DFFH is rooted in a shared commitment to fostering the inclusion of trans and gender-diverse individuals across Victoria.

We hope to continue this important work through the creation of a guide on how to spark intergenerational conversations, raise awareness, challenge discrimination, and inspire meaningful change within our communities.
