Gippsland’s ‘Double Standards’ podcast wins at the 2024 YACVic Rural Youth Awards

The biennial Youth Affairs Council Victoria (YACVic) Rural Youth Awards celebrates the amazing achievements and contributions of young people and youth sector workers anywhere in rural or regional Victoria, acknowledging achievements and contributions in creating positive change in rural and regional Victoria.

This year, the Rural Youth Awards ceremony was held on Thursday 26 September at Parliament House. Minister for Youth the Hon. Natalie Suleyman presented seven awards, recognising young people from across rural and regional Victoria who have helped to shape their communities.

CMY’s Gippsland Youth Advisory Group (YAG) were excited to win the YACVic Rural Youth Award for ‘Young people producing outstanding content in a media or social media environment’ for their ‘Double Standards’ podcast.

Designed to amplify the voices of multicultural youth living in Gippsland, the podcast available on Spotify is a great listen whether you’re a young person, a service provider working with young people, or you are simply interested in gaining some insight into the lived experiences of multicultural young people growing up in regional Victoria.

“Winning the YAC VIC award was a dream come true for our team and the YAG. It was an exceptional reward we received within just a year of our podcast. This award leads us to never stop dreaming and always dream bigger!”

Recorded in Moe Library by the members of our Gippsland YAG, the episodes touch upon matters that are important to them and their local area providing a platform for those who are generally overlooked.

New episodes are released every other month, tackling issues such as mental health, personal goals, finding freedom, cancel culture – all dissected from a intersectional lens. The group has just released their 10th episode, which explores learning and growing from our experiences.
