Shout Out recognised at Australian Migration & Settlement Awards 2017

March 22, 2017

"Australia has been a multicultural nation since its inception and the altruism of workers in the settlement sector too often goes unnoticed or underappreciated. The Australian Migration & Settlement Awards 2017 are a chance to provide much needed recognition to the people who deserve it most."

Last night, CMY's Shout Out public speakers agency was recognised for its work to help refugee and migrant young people to settle well in Australia.

The Australian Migration and Settlement Awards recognise the work of organisations and individuals that assist new migrants and refugees to settle, to feel included and to participate in Australian society. Shout Out was shortlisted as a finalist in the Settlement Innovation Award category.

CMY staff and Shout Out participants joined the Prime Minister, Malcolm Turnbull and other senior government officials at a gala event at Parliament House in Canberra to hear the announcement of the winners.

CMY CEO, Carmel Guerra said "Shout Out is an innovative project that trains and nurtures young people to share their experiences and views with a wider audience.

"Our goal is to amplify the voices of young people in the community and this project empowers them to speak out about things that matter to them."

"We are thrilled to have been considered for this prestigious award and over the moon to have two of our fabulous Shout Out speakers with us in Canberra to attend the ceremony."

Our congratulations to Settlement Services International, winners of the category, for their range of programs and to all other winners on the night.

The awards are hosted by the Migration Council of Australia.
