Lead Yourself, Lead Others: Young women in training to be future leaders
“No one can tell you who you need to be and how far you can go,” said guest speaker Sherry-Rose Watts, CMY’s Shout Out speaker, businesswoman and youth ambassador with the Victorian government.
"That's for you to decide."
Sherry-Rose was speaking to the participants of Lead Yourself, Lead Others – a two-day leadership training program for young women from multicultural backgrounds at the Centre for Multicultural Youth.
Youth facilitators Cammy Lu and Yusra Hasan led the participants through training sessions on racism, discrimination and leadership, and through activities that were designed to build their confidence and communication skills.
After day two which saw more guest speakers such as Christine Tursky, Alice Chiew and Sukhjit Kaur Kalsa discuss the importance of resilience with the young women, participants reported feeling empowered.
“I feel like I have improved and changed as a person in the last two days”
“I have drawn so much strength from these amazing women – I am so excited for what’s next.”
- Said some of the participants.
