EWV Graduation Highlights from 2017
By Mehak Sheikh
The evening of October 19th was a bundle of emotions for many of the graduates of the Enterprising Wyndham Vale program. Held at the Wyndham City Council Chambers, it was an evening of nerves, celebration, recognition and opportunities – The Enterprising Wyndham Vale Graduation.
Lorraine Ngwenya was the “caffeine of the night” as the MC and brought some insight about the program as a participant of the pilot program, Enterprising Tarneit. Program graduates then had an opportunity to take to the podium and pitch their business to a supportive audience. Beaming back at them was an audience of family members, friends, staff, Wyndham Councillors, mentors and local business owners and staff from Wyndham City council, Scanlon Foundation and, Centre for Multicultural Youth.
After fourteen IRL pitches including one video, Anthea Hancocks, CEO of The Scanlon Foundation, presented each graduate with a certificate of completion. This was followed by the program partners making a tough decision to select the best pitch. Two other graduates were awarded for the best business plan and most improved business plan. Carmel Guerra, CMY’s CEO’s gave out prizes which were sponsored by local business (Anita’s Driving School, AMH Accounting Experts, and Vodafone Tarneit) and to the mentor advisory group – people that are bringing the concept of small businesses supporting one another into a literal form!
Stephanie Brown won Best Pitch for her business idea Salad Sanctuary
Raydel Prado (Skyhawk Vision) won Best Business Plan
Nyrelle Bade ( Wyndham Arts Therapy ) won Most Improved Business Plan
The night came to a close with recognition for mentors and the mentor advisory group, chats about businesses and the amazing food served, an acknowledgment of the staff behind the program and… lots and lots of pictures: group photos, individual ones, selfies - the whole lot.
Congratulations to all the graduates on this huge accomplishment for yourself and your businesses. Business is a key component in the functioning of a community and your businesses are sure to make a difference to the Wyndham community as they develop and grow.
